This is one of the famed Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant that always have a queue at their doorstep no matter what time you rock up. The interior is clean and simple, with airconditioning and plastic chairs. There is an open kitchen concept thing which lets you see how your chicken is chopped and service is like any asian restuarant - prompt. (Meaning, get you in quick, get you out quick). First impression on meat from here is - it actually taste like chicken. (Trust me, lots of chicken meat here dont taste like chicken - read frozen & thawed) and the sauce is very fragrant too. The rice is a little disappointing as it was a little hard but it smelt good. This is a plate for 3 people to share, costing us a $15 for a plate and 40c each for rice. It's dearer than your hawker centre or Food court Chicken Rice vendors, but it does actually taste better. I would recommend a visit.
Pho 24 - Millenia Walk (Closest MRT : Cityhall)
Pho 24 is a chain of Pho restuarants in Saigon. We actually tried the one next to the Duxton Hotel in Saigon and thought it was 'alright'. If you ever tasted Pho in Melbourne - your expectation of Pho will be as high as mind too :p
When I saw that they have a Pho 24 restaurant here, I cannot resist the temptation of trying it. I ordered the rare beef one, instead of the Pho Dac Biet (Beef specials) because the beef specials will be too big for me to finish and also it costs $12.90.
Verdict - the meat tastes better than the one in Saigon but the soup is really nothing special. It didnt even taste like beef soup. The pho itself is not too overcook, which is good. The side that they give you is a little on the pathetic side (the lime and bean sprouts is all dried up) and it costs me $9.90. All up, my pho with my drip coffee costs me $14.90. Ouch.
I miss Pho in Melbourne!! Thuy - I want to go to Footscray when I go back OK?
