Escorihuela's Francis Mallmann 1884 Restaurant

Mendoza - the wine capital of Argentina. There are around 850 wineries in this region of Maipu and Lujan du Cuyo and 70% of Argentina's wines are produced here. I arrived 3 days ago and really like this trees lined city.

What better way to enjoy wine than to pair it with exquisite food?

I heard about this restaurant named 1884 about 6 months ago and really looked forward to checking it out. 1884 is the year the winery was founded hence the name. The chef/owner of 1884 is Francis Mallmann and he is a super chef in Latin America. Having already owned 2 successful restaurants (1 in Uruguay and 1 in Buenos Aires) and worked in many michelin stars restaurants in France - he opened 1884 few years ago.

The specialty here are oven baked dish that are baked in nearly 1000c. Francis Mallmann apparently invented this method of cooking and it has been his signature since.

Salad of Zuchini flower stuffed with goats cheese and served with oven baked tomatoes - paired with a glass of Viognier
Chicken baked in salt and clay served with aioli and salad

Baby Goat baked in clay oven served with patotoes and simple chimichurri - paired with a glass of Escorihuela's Cabernet Sauvignon
Dessert of strawberry and mint soup served with vanilla ice cream

Food was really good as expected and service here was flawless. Staff were very attentive and brisk. This has got to be one of the best restaurant in Latin America and with 2 glasses of wine and all these food, the bill came to around USD100 for 2 people. This is what I called value for money. Maybe I should go check out this restaurant in Uruguay next... maybe...
