Art & Dessert

Saturday 28th July 2007 - The "Ex London Crew" decide to have a get together as we seemed to all live too far from each other to organise regular outings. Kui once said "Melbourne is not very inspiring" - which is somewhat true, and hence when the Guggenheim Collection came to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) we decide to go check it out. We used to go to Galleries in London & Europe, so why not here too?
Apparently the NGV have a thing called Winter Masterpieces and every year, past 2 years the Picasso Collection and some of the Impressionist paintings were shown in Melbourne. This year, the Winter Masterpiece features series exhibition presents postwar and contemporary art from the worldwide collections of the famous Guggenheim Museum and is titled Guggenheim Collection : 1940s to Now.
The NGV looks pretty dull from the outside, (many calls it the Ugliest building in Melbourne), but once inside, its a whole different story. Unfortunately photography is not allowed.... so, I cant take any photos of the interior (except for 1 - see below).

After our afternoon at the NGV, we headed to the Grand Hyatt for Dessert Buffet. $11.50 per person all you can eat cakes and cheeses and crepes too. Yummy...good choice Kui. We basically just sat there and eat and chat the evening away. After many cups of teas and multiple helpings of cakes, we called it a night around 9pm and headed home - satisfied! I did have a sugar rush and could not sleep, so it was lucky that I was working that night.
