World Youth Day 2005

20th + 21st Aug - The day has finally arrived. We are going into Marienfeld to have the WYD mass and have a close encouter with Pope Benedict. We finally left the gymnasium of a School in Solingen and at 9am (we were sleeping in a gym for the past 5 days), we set out for Marienfeld. It was better than expected and it only took us 3 hrs to get into our field position. There were already lots of ppl - the Italians made sure they were there early to grab a good spot. We had to spent the night under the stars. It was cold sleeping in the field overnight - mass started at 9am the following morning. It was awesome to share mass with 800,000 other pilgrims. Well worth it .... eventhough I didnt get to see the Pope very closely. Am glad i came on pilgrimage - have met a lot of ppl from all across the globe. The journey out after the mass wasnt that good, it took us 7hrs to get out, tracking thru the corn fields and walking thru mud. We had to wait for 3hrs for our turn to get on the train. So tired.
800,000 pilgrims, 10,000 priests, 800 archibiships + cardinals, 1 pope and 1WYD 2005! Its all over, thank god.
